Northolt teaching assistant in Top Model of Colour finale

An aspiring model from Northolt has made it to the grand finale of the world's Top Model of Colour competition.

Mayalka Registe, 25, is one of the 25 female finalists competing for the title at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London on May 30.

Ms Registe, a teaching assistant at Capital City Academy, in Willesden, said: "As an aspiring model this is a fantastic opportunity for me to gain valuable experience within the industry and, as you can imagine, I am extremely excited to be one of the 25 out of 1,500 plus entries.

"My mum is from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, mixed with Spanish, Portuguese and Carib. My father is from Dominica. I picked up a lot of the Spanish and Portuguese genes.

"I was doing a fashion show with the current winner of the competition, sent my pictures in and they accepted me."

Top Model of Colour is in its ninth year and, having scoured the country and the world to select the most promising hopefuls, Mahogany Model Management has finally found their finalists from the United Kingdom, Europe and Africa.

Top Model of Colour is offering the participants exposure to the amazing world of modelling and an opportunity to forge a career in the industry.

Over the years, the contest has produced a number of top models that have gone on to be fashion designers, actors and supermodels.

Some of the prizes offered include a one-year modelling contract with Mahogany Model management and numerous magazine shoots.

Last year saw Kiane Ashman-Swaby beat off thousands of hopefuls from all over the country, to be named Season 8 Top Model of Colour.
